2021 Insights
3,582 users
took part
54 countries
included
1,381 coasters
ranked
In 2021 Vote Coasters reached further than ever before. Over 2,000 new people took part in the poll this year, whilst more than 1,000 voters from 2020 returned to update their rankings. We had users who ranked 10 roller coasters and others who ranked 900!
Over 50 countries took part
Though the poll was dominated by North American and European countries; people from lots of other places around the world took part too, like Argentina and the Philippines.
Most countries saw an increase in the number of participants this year. Most notably, France’s users quadrupled between 2020 and 2021 from 0.8% to 2.9%. Asia and Oceania also saw large increases too.
USA dominated the top 50
28 of the top 50 ranked roller coasters are located in the USA. Five can be found in Germany, three in Poland, and the rest are spread across a further 11 countries.
There’s no doubt that the USA is home to many of the world’s largest roller coasters, which is not surprising considering it features three times as many coasters as Germany, and 15 times more than Poland.
Newer rides are better
An impressive 58% of the roller coasters ranked within the top 50 were built between 2010 and 2019! During the last decade the roller coaster industry has evolved rapidly.
The current decade has started to produce some impressive rides too. Despite only a small number of rides opening in 2020, four roller coasters from the 2020s have broken the top 50.
Best New Addition
VelociCoaster at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure becomes the best new roller coaster of 2021, ranking 4th overall. The ride quickly stunned guests with its high intensity elements and immersive theming.
Kondaa at Walibi Belgium, another new for 2021 ride, ranked an impressive 12th; whilst the Ride to Happiness at Plopsaland de Panne debuted at 13th in its opening year.
Improvements
We’re always looking for ways to improve the accuracy of Vote Coasters. Well-known roller coasters with low numbers of riders can sometimes under perform within the rankings because they’re often only ranked amongst other high performing rides.
Over the next few months we plan to release an alternative set of Vote Coasters results, which impute data to improve the rankings of lesser ridden rides. These alternative results will offer examples of how the top 50 could look if lesser ridden coasters were ranked by lots more people. We’ll explain in more detail and announce this on our social media very soon!
Vote Coasters will return next November for the 2022 poll. Sign up to our events mailing list to make sure you’re notified when voting opens.
The more people that enter the poll, the better the results will be. Help us spread the word! If you liked the rankings, share them with your friends. Let them know about Vote Coasters - the world’s largest rank-based annual roller coaster poll.
Thank you
A huge thanks from all of us at Coaster Bot to everyone that took part in Vote Coasters in 2021, as well as all those that shared the poll. A special thanks goes to our supporters.
We’d also like to thank Jami for updating and improving the fantastic drag-and-drop ranking tool, and Andrew for keeping our roller coaster database up to date. Without those two (and all of you) the poll wouldn’t be what it is today!
