The debut of Vote Coasters has been more successful than we imagined it would be, possibly due to our new easy to use portal. We created the simple drag and drop ranking system, combined wooden and steel roller coasters, and allowed people to vote on mobile devices, all to encourage as many people as possible to take part. In the end, people from over 40 different countries took part this year. We had users who had only ridden 10s of roller coasters and others who had ridden 100s!

Over 40 countries took part

Though the poll was dominated by North American and European countries; people from Brazil, the UAE, and other places around the world all took part too.

If you live outside North America and Europe and didn’t take part this year, you could help us make the poll even more representative in 2021! Every one of us can help make Vote Coasters even bigger and more accurate next year by spreading the word.

USA dominated the top 50

28 of the top 50 ranked roller coasters are located in the USA. Five can be found in Germany, three in Poland, and the rest are spread across a further 11 countries.

There’s no doubt that America is home to many of the world’s largest roller coasters. It features three times as many coasters as Germany, and 15 times more than Poland. In the case of America in this year’s results, it seems that quantity does indeed breed quality.

Newer rides are better

60% of the roller coasters ranked in the top 50 were built between 2010 and 2020! Over the past decade the roller coaster industry has expanded rapidly. Many new types of rides have pushed limits and been successful.

14 of the top 50 roller coasters were built by Rocky Mountain Construction, an American company which began producing their own wooden and hybrid roller coasters in 2011.

Best New Addition

F.L.Y at Phantasialand became the best new roller coaster addition of 2020, ranking in 34th place. F.L.Y debuted alongside the brand new area, Rookburgh. Guests soar through the steampunk district on this flying multi-launch coaster.

Orion at Kings Island, a B&M giga coaster, wasn’t too far behind at number 65; whilst Hersheypark’s Candymonium, a B&M hyper coaster, took the 85th spot.

Vote Coasters will return next November for the 2021 poll! To make sure you’re notified when voting opens, sign up to our events mailing list.

The more people that enter the poll, the better the results will be. Help us spread the word! If you liked the rankings, share them with your friends. Let them know about Vote Coasters - the world’s biggest rank-based roller coaster poll!

Thank you

A huge thanks from all of us at Coaster Bot to everyone that took part in Vote Coasters in 2020, as well as all those that shared the poll. Special thanks to our supporters.

We’d also like to thank Andrew for helping to produce the database of coasters for the poll; and Jami for building the awesome drag and drop ranking tool and system that calculates the results. Without those two people, and all of you, the poll wouldn’t be what it is today!
